Requiem For My Youth

Requiem for my youth,
How uncouth!

Ever so fleeting,
Though my heart is still beating,
Death to illusion,
The end of delusion.

Could this face
In the mirror be mine,
Once of grace
But now so lined.

Yet if wisdom be but
An option of age,
Perhaps I’ll evolve
Into that sage.

Why did I not know
How fast it would fly,
Requiem for my youth,
A final good-bye.
